For Learners & Nusery Managers...

For Learners

Are you passionate about working with children and looking to advance your career? Our childcare level 2 qualification equips you with essential skills and knowledge to become a proficient early years educator.

What are the Entry Requirements?

To start a course as an Early Years Practitioner Level 2, you need to meet certain entry requirements. Here are the general requirements based on the provided sources:

Academic Requirements:

  • Minimum Age: You must be at least 16 years old to enroll in a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner course

  • GCSEs: Typically, you do not need any GCSE's although it is good to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above, including English (Language or Literature) and Maths, or equivalent qualifications.

The GCSE prior attainment means that you will be exempt from having to complete a functional skills course in Maths and English.

You would commence at the bottom eg level 1 or 2 and start again with Maths & English via functional skills, apposed to a level 3 or higher with GCSEs.

  • Eden has dedicated functional skills tutors who can assist you in obtaining these.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate: You should be able to obtain a satisfactory DBS certificate.

You’ll need to secure an apprenticeship position with an employer or training provider. Eden can help secure a supportive position with one of our many partners around the country.

How does the Level 2 Early Years practitioner course benefit my nursery?

EYPs stay up to date with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, ensuring that the nursery meets all regulatory requirements and provides the highest quality care and education.

By employing skilled and dedicated Early Years Practitioners, a nursery manager can significantly enhance the quality of care and education provided, create a positive and stimulating environment for children, and ensure the overall success and reputation of the nursery.

Do early years apprentices require much time out of the nursery to study?

Early years apprenticeships typically involve a combination of work and study.

Work-Study Balance:

  • Apprentices work in a real job while gaining knowledge and skills.

  • They should spend at least 20% of their normal working hours on off-the-job training, which includes studying and training.

  • Training can occur during weekly or monthly sessions or in separate blocks of time.

Pay and Conditions:

  • Employers must pay apprentices for time spent training or studying.

  • Apprentices are entitled to time off during their working week for apprenticeship training, which can take place at their workplace or online.

  • If apprentices are also studying English or Math qualifications required by their apprenticeship, they are entitled to paid study time during normal working hours.
What support will we receive during the course?

At Eden, our experienced and highly qualified Skills Coaches support both the employer and apprentice to ensure achievements milestones and improvement targets are appropriate to the workplace and accelerate learning.

Two Amazing Mentors

I started my apprenticeship at 16 and I was so nervous. I had Sam Law for my level two who was absolutely amazing and supported me all the way through. I then had Abbie Lindley for my level three and she is just as amazing! I have felt so supported by Abbie and I definitely wouldn't be where I am without her. I would definitely recommend Eden training to anyone!!

Passed the EPA with a distinction.

In the last 24-36 months I've completed both my level 2 and level 3 with Eden, and also my maths functional skills. I found them great to work with and the support from my tutor Nicola Johson exceptional. I found the training and EPA very thorough. I would recommend Eden to anyone looking to do their level 2 and level 3.
